A small dot on the map but holds a big space in the heart of many, the answer to your question, the beautiful, unique and enigmatic island of Jamaica.  Jamaica is a word on the lips of many stemming from a number of historical occurrences; qualification for the 1998 World Cup, the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the rise of Bob Marley being only a few.  People often ask why it is that Jamaicans seem to capture the heart of so many people worldwide.  Simply put, people are fascinated with different elements of the island which comprise the way of life of Jamaicans.   As humans, we are often drawn to unknown but intriguing phenomena; Jamaica is no exception.

50 years ago Jamaica gained independence and from there on out, Jamaicans have been etching their name on every piece of ‘canvas’ that is made available to them.  Music, go ask Bob. Sports, where do you want me to start? The big screen, ever heard of Paul Campbell, I suggest you go search. Academics, ok, let me give you an opportunity to use your search engines, ready, ok, David Walcott.  Food, one word, jerk, and I am not talking about the dance.  Speaking of dance, there is a Jamaican dance for every day of the year.  Jamaicans only need the basics to the task and they will figure out the rest and I suggest that the ‘know how’ be provided because you do not want to allow us to become innovators.

People often mistake our passion for aggression but take a trip to the 4243 square mile of land mass and the drive of the nation will be made clear.  The black, green and gold are the only colours that matter and though these colours may seem secondary to the different high school colours that are showcased during Championship time, the priority is quite straight; one nation and that is Jamaica.

We have our trials and perils that may at time derail the train to nation building but the pride and unity of a nation will surpass all obstacles.  We have time to reach where we really want to be but nothing happens before time.  Happy Birthday Jamaica!!!

INTRO

Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, Aah, Aah, Aah

CHORUS

This is the land of my birth

I say this is the land of my birth
I say this is Jamaica, my Jamaica, the land of my birth

VERSE 1
I will never leave her shores, I will never run away
I will always believe in the black, the green, the gold I say
All nations great have all their trials

We must face the test of time
Because our people they are strong and we going to get along.
Though some people say we are poor

But the progress you make my friend is not always how rich you are

CHORUS

I say this is the land of my birth

I say this is the land of my birth
I say this is Jamaica, my Jamaica, the land of my birth

VERSE 2

Let us stop for a minute, count our blessings one by one
We should never be disloyal, but stand up and keep strong.
My Jamaica is a beautiful island

She is the pearl of the Caribbean Seas

And our people they are free, no oppression there to see.
With the prettiest women there be

And the hills, and the plains and the rivers and the valleys always beckon to me.

CHORUS

I say this is the land of my birth

I say this is the land of my birth
I say this is Jamaica, my Jamaica, the land of my birth

Oooh, oh, oh, hey yeah yeah yeah

Oooh, oh, oh, hey yeah yeah yeah

VERSE 3

Miss Tourist, Mr. Tourist, leave your land and come

Tarry here for a while, and have a bathe in the warm warm sun
We will share our land with you

Our people they are true, they will want to be with you.
They will love, they will help, they will give, if you wish my friend you can live
You will be a happier one in the land of the rising sun

CHORUS

I say this is the land of my birth

I say this is the land of my birth
I say this is Jamaica, my Jamaica, the land of my birth

I say this is the land of my birth

I say this is the land of my birth
I say this is Jamaica, my Jamaica
