Though only a dot on the map, Jamaica has been known to set standards that others emulate and adopt.  However, regardless of the many milestones, the few negatives that arise every so often seem to place a dark cloud over the nation, overshadowing the many great moments that it boasts.  Resultantly, these negatives, when they do arise carry with them such weight that they cannot go unnoticed.  In this New Year, 2013, we the people of the rock called Jamaica need to work to restore the prestige and pride the nation has lost.  However, I think a different approach needs to be examined and implemented.  Not the ‘together we can’ school of thought and mentality that have been so prevalent and have been oversubscribed.  This new approach should start with ‘The One’, the individual.  Each person needs to draw on ‘The One’ within them, the Leader.

Every wrong or meltdown that has plague the country has no owner.  Instead we see many individuals laying blame and pointing fingers here and there.  If we can be so quick to point fingers and identify the source and or cause of the problems, why is it that, with the same speed, these problems cannot be addressed?  Reason, everyone seems to be followers, we have a nation of few leaders.  This is the element that has been missing and needs to be found and introduced.  The country needs more leaders with a straight frame of mind that suggest innovative ideas to lift the country from the slum it is currently in.

A few nights ago the Prime Minister addressed the nation with the intention to speak on the affairs of the nation.   After said address, tongues went wagging and everyone decided to voice his/her opinion about the quality of the speech and what was missing from it and what was not addressed.  However, I have asked this question, has there ever been a Prime Minister that has never been scrutinized and criticized but instead has done everything perfectly? I say no and there never will be, stop expecting a superhero. I am not choosing sides or pointing fingers; instead, I seek to ask myself, what can I do to make things right, what contributions can I make that people can gravitate towards and claim as their own that will contribute to nation building?  I take this approach because I was raised to be a leader.  Each Jamaican, home and abroad, needs to find the leader within because it is at that point that we will start to see changes in our island.  Ideas and strength build a nation not blames.  The smallest contribution goes a far way and regardless of the thought behind it, it does count.

Each member of society needs to channel their inner leader.  The leaders of the nation need to start to think like and about the normal civilian, who is at a lost and needs a way out, then channel their inner leader to develop solutions to these problems.  The ordinary individual in the street, whose back is against the wall and on whose shoulder the world seems to rest needs to realize that he or she is possibly at his/her lowest and there is nowhere to go but up.  That said, he/she, needs to channel his/her inner leader and find innovative ways to ‘dig’ through the barriers that exist.  At the same time, do not be swayed by the notion and misconceptions that society pushes your way.  For example, you will be sold the idea that if you do not have education then you are no one going nowhere.  Just know, not everything you are being sold is worthy of being bought.  However, we all have experiences and these experiences build wisdom.  Draw on your experiences and find a way to overcome, turn to your inner leader to save the day.

Musicians, you have one of the most powerful weapons that God has blessed man with, the power of music.  The words that you pen are just as, or even more, powerful than putting a gun in a man’s hand and telling him to kill.  As such, think before you sing because your music reaches an audience that you yourselves cannot even fathom.  Erase this mentality that you are not responsible for the actions of an individual who listens your music because words, sound power.  That said, draw on the leader that exists within and create music similar to that which laid the foundation for your music.

To the ‘thugs’, paraphrasing the words of Busy Signal, forget the badmanship before it capsizes.  The gun mentality is useless and it is one of the elements that is tearing the nation to shreds.  In the same breath, to the ‘sufferers’ who think that the gun is the only way to put food on their table, rethink and find the leader within; it is there.  All things are possible, dream big and find those dreams because The Father made no mistakes.  To one and all, find the leader within, it is there.

Agent Sasco highlights, the type of personalities that exist currently, those who think that everything that everyone has must be attained and in trying to attain same, they lose their souls and go to the extreme.  As I-Octane points out, there are other ways to make it in life, other roads to travel to gain recognition.  Chronixx points to the same ideal, not doing the unthinkable to be recognized and Masicka says he knows why he is working, struggles will arise but find the leader within and you will see how easy it is to surpass all odds.

Be not a follower, when a challenge arises, turn to the new superhero in town, let us reclaim our country, call INNER LEADER.
